AKT

AKTivism from the Kitchen Table

What is AKT?

AKT (Activism from the Kitchen Table) is an initiative part resourced by The Corrymeela Community with a particular interest in the urban environment of Belfast.

The people involved are a loose network of women and men with a common interest in engaging with contemporary social and ethical issues at the level of education, conversation, debate which informs local action. We have a shared sense that in the Belfast area there is a need for people of faith to have spaces where cross pollination could occur. We hope that these spaces might offer opportunities for the meeting of minds and hearts in ways that facilitate AKTion as people galvanise themselves and organise to support one another in on-going social action and social change.

AKT (Activism from the Kitchen Table) A project hosted by the Corrymeela Community which seeks to create conversation, reflection and AKTion on issues facing our contempoary society.

Since the project began there are have been several successful events. The first focused on the opportunites that the current economic climate gave for community building and notions of sharing- we called it ‘The Crunch Back’. The second, ‘One Hundred Thousand Welcome’ explored the theme of hospitality from the angles of theology, practical issues facing refugees and migrants, the nature of a welcoming space, and where those on the margins, such as the LGBT and disabled community feel welcome/unwelcome.  The third event explored again though conversation and action the theme of REST. The most recent AKT delved into the world of PLAY – and was an all age event, with conversation tables exploring merriment, practical play and theoretical reasoning why play is good for body, mind and soul!

AKT is currently having a seasonal rest, however if you want to know more then click on the link below.
