Why Volunteer

“Volunteering at Corrymeela is amazing – the chance to develop your personality and your skills; through my journey at Corrymeela I have learnt so much but I think I have given a lot too.”
-Paul from Warrenpoint (NI), Short-Term Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of Corrymeela.  People of all ages, from different countries and from many different traditions, come to Corrymeela to volunteer.  Much of Corrymeela’s work takes place at the Ballycastle Centre.  Corrymeela depends heavily on volunteers to support group programmes and to assist in the general running of the Centre.  As such, volunteering has always been an essential part of Corrymeela’s vision.

Volunteering with Corrymeela will provide you with a wide range of new experiences and help you develop existing skills and learn new things.  In addition to learning in specific areas of work, there is also the opportunity for personal development through working with such a diverse range of groups and alongside people from all over the world and from many different backgrounds.

Volunteers come with a wide range of abilities.  For some, volunteering is new and challenging.  For others, volunteering is a reflection of an ethos of service, interdependency and support.  Regardless of the length of time, energy or skill that a volunteer brings to Corrymeela, each is equally important and integral to the running of the centre.  Some come, for example, for a few days or weeks to help with a specific task, such as reception, helping in the kitchen or working alongside a group.  Others choose to follow one of our specific volunteering programmes.

We invite applications from prospective volunteers who are interested in contributing to Corrymeela’s work.  Corrymeela is committed to equality of opportunity and we welcome applications from prospective volunteers regardless of disability, gender, marital and family status, sexual orientation, religious belief, political opinion, race or ethnic origin, domestic or caring responsibility or age (with the sole exception that volunteers must be at least 18 years old).
