The past is a moving picture

Screening of the film ‘UP Standing: Stories of Courage from Northern Ireland’
Corrymeela is pleased to be contributing to ‘Imagine Belfast’ a festival of Ideas and Politics where we will be screening our film ‘Up Standing: Stories of courage from Northern Ireland’. The film features ten accounts from ‘everyday’ people who stood up to violence, prejudice and sectarianism in Northern Ireland. The film was created by Corrymeela as a tool to support an exploration of the Troubles and to broaden the debate around how we can learn from the past in a meaningful way – what different choices do we need to make in the present and future to build a peaceful and shared society?
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the Producer and Director Paul Hutchinson and a critical reflection by Dr Gladys Ganiel from the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen’s University Belfast.
