Last year, for the centenary of the ending of WW1, we commissioned a play to be the centrepiece of a special gathering for Year 10 pupils from a selection of schools. On 9th November, over 200 pupils and their teachers gathered in the City Hall for a performance of “Peace Day.”

The play continues to have a audience and later this month the writer Philip Orr and local actor Andrew McCracken, who plays the main character, will perform in front of delegates at the Global Anabaptist Peace Conference in Amsterdam.

Philip Orr said, “We will also be hosting a workshop following the performance, based on themes in the play, and I’ll be glad to talk of the work of Corrymeela and how this play explores issues of conflict and peace.”

The invitation has come from Mennonite West Europe which works with Mennonite congregations in Holland, Germany, Switzerland France, Spain, Portugal and the UK.

Sean Pettis and Glenn Jordan are currently exploring the potential of restaging the play in local schools in the run up to Remembrance Day this year. In the meantime a live performance was filmed and is available online HERE
