Join our Council: Corrymeela is looking for a new Treasurer

Applications are open for an experienced finance leader to join Corrymeela’s Council from February 2027.

Corrymeela is looking for an experienced finance leader to join our Council as Treasurer. This is a voluntary trustee role starting in February 2027, and applications close at 4pm on Wednesday 11 November 2026.

About the role

The Treasurer is pivotal in providing financial oversight for Corrymeela, the oldest peace and reconciliation organisation on the island of Ireland.  We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee with an annual income of between £1.5 and £1.8 million. Working with fellow Council members, the Treasurer will:

  • chair the Finance Committee and serve on the Audit and Risk Committee
  • advise trustees on their financial responsibilities and report to Council on the charity’s financial health and internal controls
  • act as Council’s main point of contact for our Head of Finance and external auditor
  • help shape our reserves and investment policies, and present the accounts at our AGM

About Council

Council is the governing body of the Corrymeela Community. Its trustees collectively carry legal and financial responsibility for our work, from setting strategic direction to managing risk and resources. Council meets at least seven times a year, alternating between Belfast and Ballycastle, with a residential weekend in January or February.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with significant experience of financial control and budgeting in a charity or business, including overarching financial strategy. You’ll understand the financial reporting requirements for charitable companies, be able to explain financial information clearly to the board and other stakeholders, and be committed to Corrymeela’s values. A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) and experience of charity SORP, reserves and investment policy, or fundraising would be an advantage.

The commitment

The role requires around 20 hours per month. Meetings take place at our Belfast office, at the Ballycastle Centre or online, and all out–of–pocket expenses are reimbursed.

An invitation to everyone

Our Community is diverse, and we are striving to make sure our Council is truly reflective of the people we serve. We would particularly welcome applications from ethnic minorities, younger people, people with disabilities and marginalised groups.

How to apply

Before you apply, we’d love to meet with you to share more about what we do and how we work. To arrange a conversation, contact David Mark or Nicola Murray using the details in the information pack.

To apply, please send:

  • a letter of interest (no more than two pages of A4) sharing why you’d like to be Treasurer, what you would bring to the role and your commitment to our values
  • a CV (no more than two pages)
  • a signed Charity Trustee Declaration

Applications must be received by 4pm on Wednesday 11 November 2026, and late applications will not be considered. Shortlisting takes place the week beginning 16 November, and shortlisted applicants will have the chance to meet members of the Community over a cuppa before interviews in Ballycastle on Thursday 26 November.
